Job Title: Postdoctoral Position - Silicon Photonics, Nanophotonics
Description:

A Postdoctoral Researcher Position is available immediately in Prof. Preble's Nanophotonics Research group at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The successful candidate will conduct research on an exciting new class of nanophotonic devices based on the dynamic tuning of silicon microcavities (ring and disk resonators, photonic crystals, etc.). The candidate will model, fabricate and test a multitude of devices - from optical memory to photonic "diodes".

About Professor Preble's Group:
Our group is developing high performance nanophotonic devices on a silicon chip. Silicon is the ideal material for on-chip optical interconnects because of its mature use in the electronics industry, thus offering the possibility to monolithically integrate both photonic and electronic functionalities all on one chip. This will enable unprecedented performance and efficiency by leveraging the inherently high bandwidths of photons and low-power operation of nanophotonic devices. More information about Prof. Preble's group can be found at http://nanophotonics.rit.edu

Qualifications:
(1) A doctoral degree in EE, Physics, Optics, Material Science or equivalent; (2) Background in photonic and/or electronic device characterization; (3) Experience with micro/nanofabrication technology is strongly desired. (4) Enthusiastic interest in photonics research.

Application:
Interested applicants are welcome to send their CV's and a short statement of interest, via email, to Prof. Stefan Preble(sfpeen@rit.edu). Please include contact information for two or three references.

Applications will be reviewed immediately and will be accepted until the position is filled.

RIT has been recognized on The Chronicle of Higher Education's inaugural "Great Colleges to Work For" list. RIT was cited in six different categories: Professional/Career Development Program, Compensation and Benefits, Tuition Reimbursement, 403b or 401k (retirement plan), Disability Insurance and Life Insurance.

Nanofabrication Facilities:
The successful candidate will carry out fabrication of devices at both RIT's Semiconductor and Microsystems Fabrication Laboratory (http://www.smfl.rit.edu/) and Cornell Universities Nanoscale Science and Technology Facility (http://www.cnf.cornell.edu).

The Rochester Institute of Technology is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. All individuals with the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the university's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences are encouraged to make application.
