Job Title:  Biologist Postdoc Fellow
Req Number:  23090
Division:  Life Sciences
Department:  Genome Dynamics

Be Part of Something Great!

The Life Sciences Division has an opportunity for a Biologist Postdoctoral Fellow. We are building a new and broad-based program at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories on DNA Repair and genome stability, and their role in neurological disease, cancer and aging. Approaches to mechanisms encompass a wide range of techniques including protein purification, biochemical and biophysical analyses of protein/DNA complexes, animal and cell culture models, mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, computational analysis of whole genome data, quantum dot chemistry, real time cell imaging, and fluorescence microscopy/image processing. Thus, we welcome talented individuals at the postdoctoral level from diverse scientific backgrounds to be part of a progressive team.

As a Postdoc, you will have the opportunity to participate in one or more aspects of the program. Projects vary and require different skills. Thus, the successful candidate will have a command of the scientific skills relevant to their fields, and a command of basic laboratory techniques.

Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated record of accomplishment or expertise in one or more areas:
• Biochemical and biophysical analysis of DNA repair proteins and their complexes.
• Structural (X-ray) analysis of DNA repair proteins and their complexes.
• Imaging of protein interactions in cancer cells and in primary neurons.
• Quantum dot chemistry and their use in cells.
• Whole genome analysis of DNA instability in animals and in humans.
• Mass spectrometry and bioinformatics.

Additional Key Success Factors
• A recent Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics/Physics, Molecular biology, Cell biology, or a related field of science, or MD with appropriate research experience.
• Experience conducting independent research with appropriate command of methodology.
• Ability to maintain organized and well-documented laboratory notebook.
• Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
• Experience preparing manuscripts and participation in writing grant applications and preparation of meeting presentations.
• Demonstrated record of accomplishment or expertise.
