The battery program at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) has an opening for an electrochemical engineer to mathematically simulate the behavior of Li-ion cells, perform electrochemical experiments to extract model parameters, and work with other members of the LBNL battery community (with experience in material synthesis, spectroscopy and cell design) to aid in battery-materials design. The goal of the project is to evaluate the ability of next-generation Li-ion cathodes and anodes to provide the performance necessary for use in vehicular applications.

Key Success Factors
• PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related field.
• Experience with mathematical modeling (i.e., continuum modeling) and intimate familiarity with electroanalytical techniques (CV, chronoamperometry etc.).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Some expertise in non-aqueous electrochemistry involving lithium, though not necessary, is desirable.
• Expertise with finite-element methods and modeling Li-ion systemsis is also desired.

This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal based on performance and continuation of funding.
