Our client has retained our services to source for an Organic Synthetic Chemist who will work to support a multi-project environment requiring expertise in organic or metalorganic synthesis and synthetic chemistry. This individual will work in individual or team capacity to provide solutions to a variety of problems with formulation, characterization, engineering and property optimization of various types of molecular species suitable for light harvesting in hybrid organic/inorganic photovoltaic devices. Moreover, the individual will be expected to contribute to solutions involving surface chemistry as it pertains to attachment of these species to inorganic nanostructural substrates to optimize performance or achieve a desired set of electrophysical properties. S/he will have to be able to translate between formulation recipes and their impact to physical and electrical characteristic of synthesized compounds. The individual will be expected to have a strong hands-on approach in the laboratory and good theoretical understanding of the various tools and process that are required in his/her line of work. The employee may carry the additional task of maintaining a state-of-the-art chemical synthesis lab, where the bulk of the synthetic work will be carried out. To that end, substantial lab and hands-on chemical synthesis experience, including managing a chemical lab is highly desired. Must have skills: 1. Ph.D. degree in Chemistry (organic synthetic chemistry strongly preferred). 2. Proven expertise with the synthesis of macrocyclic compounds (i.e. porphyrin, phthallocyanine, etc.) with various substitutions using a variety of synthesis techniques as well as general expertise in other types of organic synthesis. 3. Expertise in analysis and characterization of organic and metalorganic compounds (i.e. NMR, FTIR, XRD, UV-Vis spectra, etc.) 4. Experience in sophisticated chemical synthesis including proper use of Schlink lines, glove boxes, and other air-free synthesis techniques. 5. Experience in scale up issues, especially with respect to issues relating to transferring laboratory science to large volume manufacturing. 6. Documented problem solving skills (with examples) and innovation/publication record. 7. Ability to run and maintain a chemical synthesis lab (ideally prior experience). 8. Excellent presentation and communication skills. The applicant should also have clean room experience and basic understanding of electronic device function and fabrication. Needs PhD plus 3 + years experience.
