Data Mining Engineer (Central London, UK)

Mendeley is a start-up developing social software and Web 2.0 tools to transform the way science is done. Our vision is to create a “Last.fm for Research”. Mendeley consists of two parts: Mendeley Desktop, free cross-platform software (Win, Mac, Linux) for managing and sharing research papers, and Mendeley Web, a website for managing research papers online, discovering research trends and connecting to like-minded academics. If you want to be part of it, here’s your chance: We’re currently looking for a talented Data Mining Engineer to join our Mendeley team!

What you’ll be doing:
•    Design and implement recommendation engine specs to deliver the most relevant information to the end-user
•    Work with large-scale databases
•    Utilize distributed data processing strategies using frameworks such as Hadoop
•    Lead in developing the recommendation engine team
•    Shape Mendeley with your own ideas, enthusiasm and personality

What you should ideally bring:
•    Expert experience in the area of recommendation engines, large-scale data mining or machine learning
•    Experience with Amazon Elastic MapReduce or other distributed data services
•    Very good knowledge in C/C++, Java, or relevant languages to perform CPU intensive calculations
•    Product management experience or familiarity is a plus
•    PhD or Masters with research performed in mathematics, data mining, machine learning, biomedical informatics, AI, or a similar area
