| Description: |
Post Doctoral Fellow: Reconstruction Methods for High-Speed 3D Electrical Impedance Tomography The Position: A two-year post-doctoral research position is available for developing high-speed reconstruction algorithms in electrical impedance tomography. The position is immediately available and decisions regarding the position will be made by November 1, 2009 or earlier. Project Overview: We are developing an imaging device that couples transrectal ultrasound with electrical impedance tomography to improve guidance in prostate biopsy procedures. This project is a cross-disciplinary endeavor with collaborators from Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and is focused on developing translatable technologies. The project is funded by the US National Institutes of Health as part of their Challenge Grant Initiative. The Candidate: We are seeking a computer scientist, or similar, with expertise in computationally efficient numerical methods. This project aims to develop high-speed electrical impedance image reconstruction algorithms on dedicated GPU hardware. The successful candidate will have a PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, or equivalent and will have experience developing advanced FEM algorithms and solving inverse problems in soft-field tomography. This is a dynamic research program requiring both independent and collaborative efforts and we are seeking an individual with an enthusiasm for this research and the skills enabling them to communicate with others both inside and outside their immediate field of study. Desired Skills/Experience: Large FEM models, efficient solvers for inverse problems, GPU programming, image fusion, soft-field tomography, C/C++ The Dartmouth Environment: We are a leading research group in the development of electrical impedance tomography systems and have a proven track record of utilizing these technologies in clinical studies. We offer a collaborative environment for post-doctoral research with potential interactions with engineers at the Thayer School of Engineering, computer scientists and mathematicians within Dartmouth’s School of Arts and Sciences, and medical practitioners at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The Application: Interested candidates please send letter of interest and resume/CV to Ryan Halter, PhD Thayer School of Engineering Dartmouth College 603-646-0773
