School of Solar Energy (SSE), at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, offers state-of-the-art experimental, theoretical and computational research facility in the thrust areas of solar energy technologies. The areas of research include fundamental and commercial solar cell technologies; advanced, nano-structured and hybrid solar cells; photovoltaic systems; solar thermal systems, components, and supporting technologies. SSE invites applications for admission to the PhD programme. ABOUT THE PROGRAMME: • The PhD programs are fully residential. All candidates selected would be provided hostel facility on campus. • Selected Ph.D. candidates are entitled to: i. Research and Teaching Assistantship of Rs 20,000/- to Rs. 25,000/- per month. ii. Professional Development Assistantship of up to Rs. 20,000/- per annum for knowledge enrichment. iii. ANNEXURE I. Eligibility Criteria: First Class or equivalent (60% marks for General categories; 55% for SC / ST/ Physically Challenged candidates) or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 or above (6.5 for SC/ST/ Physically Challenged candidates) in: i) M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Physics/ Applied Physics/ Electronics/ Optoelectronics OR ii) M.E./ M.Tech or equivalent degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering/ Electrical Engineering / Instrumentation Engineering/ Engineering Physics/ Semiconductor Device Technology/ Energy Science & Engineering. • Candidates appearing at the final examination of the qualifying degree are also eligible for the selection test, however, they must submit the attested copies of the qualifying degree certificate / final transcript within 7 days of its publication or 15th January, 2010 whichever is earlier. Failing to do so, the admission would stand cancelled. • Reservation for SC / ST / PC (Physically Challenged) candidates as per Government of India rules. II. Syllabus for the selection tests: i) Written Exam: Basic Concepts and Principles of the following: Engineering Mathematics/ Mathematical Physics, Electromagnetism, Quantum Mechanics, Solid State Physics, Analog and Digital Electronics, Electronic Devices, Power Systems & electronics, Energy economy, Thermodynamics. ii) Presentation and Interview: Based on written examination and individual projects and experience. Note: Candidates should bring original certificates, project reports, theses, experience certificate etc. at the time of interview.
