Job Title: Cell Cycle Regulation of DNA Replication and Chromatin Accessibility, Dr. Mirit Aladjem
Description:

A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available at the Laboratory of Molecular Pharmacology, National Cancer Institute under the supervision of Dr. Mirit I. Aladjem. Our studies focus on molecular signaling pathways that determine when and where DNA replication starts on chromatin. These issues are essential for the understanding of cancer growth because accurate replication is vital for genomic stability and variations in cell cycle signaling pathways contribute to the wide range of sensitivity of various cancers to anti-cancer drugs. In recent studies, we have identified a replicator element within the human beta globin locus that dictates replication sites and timing and have characterized epigenetic factors that contributed to the establishment of replication timing. We have also shown that replicators can alter chromatin condensation in their vicinity. We currently focus on DNA-protein interactions of replicators and replication timers. The successful applicant will engage in studies focusing on how cell cycle regulators interact with replicators to alter the accessibility and condensation status of chromatin at different stages of cell growth and in response to anti-cancer agents.
