Job Title: Postdoctoral position in stem cell research and translational potential
Description:

Stem Cell Biologist
We seek an advanced postdoctoral fellow with expertise in stem cell methods, responsible for managing the stem cell research and its applications to our studies on noise-induced hearing loss. Familiarity with the auditory system not necessary but experience with avian and mammalian brains desirable. This position will provide the opportunity to develop into an independent investigator as we move from our current funding into a competitive grant.

Assists in design and development of experiments.

Works under the limited supervision of a staff member of higher rank.

Leads research assistants, para-professional, clerical or other staff members of lower rank as assigned.
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP WITH OPPORTUNITY IN STEM-CELL AREA
We have established an ideal animal model in which the inner ear is consistently damaged by noise exposure. This results in a progressive neurodegeneration in the central pathways. We have established appropriate protocols for hearing evaluation including startle and auditory brainstem responses. Previous studies, including the labs of Kent Morest (D’Sa, Gross, Francone, Morest, Eur J Neurosci 26) and James Li (Guo, Li, Development 134; Guo, Li under review), have demonstrated that Fgf signaling plays an important role in inner ear formation, especially Fgf8. Newly generated mouse mutations affecting these factors are now available for study.
We seek a postdoctoral fellow with appropriate background for developing proficiency with appropriate stem cell methods under the guidance of the Morest/Li labs. The position is ideally suited for someone with previous relevant experience at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels. Experience with hearing research is not required. Ideal would be a doctoral degree and two years of postdoctoral experience with stem cell techniques. We will provide the opportunity to develop in a collaboration and as an independent investigator.
Position available immediately. Salary comparable to NIH standard or upper limit.
