A postdoctoral position is immediately available at Argonne National Laboratory to develop advanced granular materials for energy storage. A powder coating process that is based on atomic layer deposition (ALD) in a gas-controlled fluidized bed will be developed and this coating technique is in capable of controlling coating layer with thickness at the atomic-scale level for each fluidized particle. The objective is to massively manufacture advanced granular materials.

The successful candidate will be involved in developing advanced granular cathode materials, guiding graduate students hands-on skills on fluidization and ALD powder coating, developing new ideas, drafting scientific paper and proposals, and tracking equipment usage and ordering. This appointment is initially for duration of one year, annually renewable for two years contingent to successful progress and future funding available.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or in a closely related field obtained within the past three years (upon the time when the position is offered) with considerable knowledge of and experimental expertise in powder/granular science (e.g. fluidization, meso- macroporous powder materials, MD/CFD, etc.), surface material chemistry (e.g. ALD, CVD) and vacuum systems. The skills for using various micro-characterizing techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and tunneling electron microscopy (TEM), AFM, etc. are essential to the project and highly desired. Moreover, some knowledge in electrochemistry, such as Li-ion battery, is a plus.
