SUMMARY:
Postdoctoral Position in Magnetic Systems for Free Electron Lasers. The Engineering Division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) invites applications for a postdoctoral position with the Mechanical Engineering Department.
Berkeley Lab is looking for highly capable applicants with a desire to work in an applied R&D National Laboratory environment, using a broad array of analytical, design, instrumentation, and/or hardware skills in the development of research equipment of national importance within the Department of Energy complex. The position provides an opportunity for exposure to a wide variety of R&D programs and projects related to Basic Energy Sciences and Accelerator Physics. Our activities include the design and fabrication of insertion devices and other accelerator and beamline magnetic systems for the Advanced Light Source, and research into undulators for future free-electron lasers.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and participate in research, contribute to the ongoing programs, and work under senior engineers to develop skills compatible with the Lab's needs. Knowledge of magnetic systems, free-electron lasers, cryogenics systems, and superconducting magnet technology is desirable.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants are expected to hold a recent Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or accelerator physics.
NOTES:
This is a two-year appointment contingent upon satisfactory performance, continued funding and operational needs. May be renewed for an additional year under the same conditions.
