The Artificial Organs Laboratory at the Department of Surgery of the University of Maryland seeks applicants for a post-doctoral research associate position. The lab conducts translational cardiovascular research as well as the research and development of blood-contacting artificial organs. The research activities are carried out within a multidisciplinary team consisting of engineers, clinicians, surgeons, residents, and students (please visit our webpage http://medschool.umaryland.edu/artificial_organs for details). The successful candidate will work on multiple NIH funded research projects, with a focus on the chemistry of biomaterials, blood, surface coating and modification for biomedical devices (artificial lungs, blood oxygenators and circulatory assist devices).

The applicants are expected to have a PhD degree in chemistry or chemical engineering or material science and engineering or physics. We are interested in individuals from the areas of analytical chemistry of biomaterials, biological aspects of blood contacting surface and surface coating/modification (heparin/polymer) for improved biocompatibility. The ideal candidates shall have strong leadership skills and contribute to the growing bioengineering research at the University of Maryland Baltimore. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. Sponsorship for H1B visa is provided for international applicants.
