Job Title: PhD studentship: Graduate Study in Physics and Astronomy
Description:

Graduate Study at the University of Alabama Department of Physics and Astronomy
Graduate assistantships and fellowships are available at The University of Alabama in the Department of Physics and Astronomy for students pursuing Ph.D. degrees in physics. The department has strong theoretical and experimental research programs in astronomy and astrophysics, condensed matter, particle and molecular physics. Details of research programs can be found on the departmental website: physics.ua.edu. Graduate students typically enter on teaching assistantships or fellowships and choose their research program during the first year. Students earning a score above the 60th percentile on the physics subject GRE automatically qualify for the Ph.D. program. For transfer students, prior graduate work consisting of up to 1/2 of the course requirement for the Ph.D. degree can be transferred. Annual stipends for teaching and research assistantships as well as fellowships provide financial support in the range of $18,500 to $20,000, enough to afford complete living expenses. For those receiving stipends, tuition and fees are waived and health insurance is free. For more information, about graduate admission see the Academics link at physics.ua.edu.
