Job Title: Cancer Genetics and Molecular Biology, Dr. Yardena Samuels
Description:

Fully funded postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the Cancer Genetics Branch of the National Human Genome Research Institute to work on the recently discovered oncogene, PI3Kalpha, which is one of the most mutated oncogenes in human cancer (see papers by Samuels Y in: Science, 2004; Nature, 2005 and Cancer Cell, 2005).

Candidates will also work on the identification of genes that are mutated in melanoma and the elucidation of the cellular pathways that these alterations perturb. These projects will involve sophisticated technologies such as high-throughput sequencing, whole genome genotyping, somatic cell knockouts, and expression and proteomic analyses.

Successful candidates can expect to work in a supportive and dynamic environment with excellent training opportunities at the NIH campus in Bethesda. Training will include interaction with other laboratories and core facilities, including DNA microarray analysis, genomic analysis, and cell sorting. The salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with experience. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or M.D. awarded within the past five years.

Candidates who wish to join the group may apply by clicking on the button below or sending, by mail or e-mail, a cover letter, CV, including list of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and the names/phone numbers of three people who could provide letters of reference to:

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) led the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) contribution to the International Human Genome Project, which had as its primary goal the sequencing of the human genome. This project was successfully completed in April 2003. Now, the NHGRI's mission has expanded to encompass a broad range of studies aimed at understanding the structure and function of the human genome and its role in health and disease.

To that end NHGRI supports the development of resources and technology that will accelerate genome research and its application to human health. A critical part of the NHGRI mission continues to be the study of the ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of genome research. NHGRI also supports the training of investigators and the dissemination of genome information to the public and to health professionals.
