The D. E. Shaw group seeks a very bright, highly motivated, and exceptionally well-qualified senior Database Administrator to lead a team managing distributed, mission-critical databases in a fast-paced environment.  Responsibilities include database design, performance analysis and tuning, server administration, disaster recovery, as well as improving software release processes.  Successful hires will have the opportunity to grow beyond traditional DBA confines, working closely with software developers to help design and implement efficient, scalable, and resilient database applications.

A bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a technical discipline, as is 5+ years of experience.  Programming and scripting ability as well as excellent verbal and written skills are also required.  Ideal candidates will have experience in financial or related environments.  Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase ASE, Replication Server, and UNIX or MS Windows administration are definite pluses.  The firm offers a casual, collegial working environment and an extremely attractive compensation package.
