At FPInnovations - Paprican's research facility in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, we have an exciting new opportunity for a talented, entrepreneurial researcher to lead our EvaluTreeTM team. EvaluTreeTM, a business unit within FPInnovations - Paprican, uses cutting-edge technology to provide and facilitate research in wood and fibre quality. The suite of state-of-the-art measurement technologies includes SilviScan, award winning technology developed by researchers at CSIRO in Australia to rapidly assess wood quality characteristics including fibre dimensions, wood density, microfibril angle, and modulus of elasticity. Other advanced measurement equipment includes ion chromatography and spectroscopy (FT-IR, NIR, and Raman) for wood chemistry, advanced imaging tools such as an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM), a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) and a Hi-Res Fibre Quality Analyser (FQA) for fibre analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the business unit and continuing to establish it as the leading wood and fibre quality lab in the world. The successful candidate will have an established track record in the field of wood and fibre science, will provide leadership for the research program and will manage scientific collaboration with internal and external clients and partners in Canada and around the world. Reporting to the Fibre Supply and Quality Program Manager, the EvaluTree Business Unit Leader will also grow the EvaluTree business by developing and managing client relationships for wood and fibre quality analysis. He/she will be responsible for managing, developing and mentoring the EvaluTree staff, a team of 7-10 researchers and technicians, and for ensuring that research goals are met and projects are delivered effectively and on time.
