DESCRIPTION

The Fibre Supply and Quality group, located in our laboratory in Vancouver, BC is seeking an applications oriented Senior Scientist to join the team. The successful candidate will conduct applied research into the effects of fibre quality on pulping, pulp processing and pulp/paper quality, using sensor technologies, developed in-house, to correlate incoming wood/chip quality with pulping and pulp quality. Major challenges will include implementing chip quality sensing technologies  into targeted pulp mills, developing models that address how wood/chip and fibre quality affect pulping and pulp quality, and implementing applications that deliver value from these sensors.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in engineering, chemistry or other applied science with a strong background in multivariate analysis and modeling. Experience in pulp and paper is required and a demonstrated track record in technology transfer is a strong asset.  Self-motivated individual with strong communication skills, who can function well in both a mill environment and a research facility.
