Job Title: Research Scientist/Engineer
Description:

Description:

Join us on the next frontier of measurement instruments. We are an advanced research team developing new tools for nanotechnology and investigating measurement opportunities in the fields of bioscience and electronics. We are looking for a recent doctoral graduate in engineering or science who has demonstrated expertise in building experiments that combine mechanical and electrical systems to push the state of the art. While providing important measurements of biochemical and electrical structures, you will play an active role in characterizing and developing novel measurement tools. We are looking for a team player who is at home with complex equipment. The world is getting smaller and you will help us develop the tools to measure, manipulate, and see the nanostructures of this next century.

The initial focus of this position will be the testing and characterization of a novel scanning probe measurement system. Your background and understanding of SPM systems and applications will be critical in determining design tradeoffs for the overall measurement instrument. In collaboration with a team of engineers, you will design and construct the hardware and associated computer programs necessary to systematically determine the fundamental limits of various scanning probe techniques. Building on these insights, you will play a key role in developing technologies that directly affect the way that we probe and image the nanoworld.

Agilent Laboratories is a world-leading industrial research center whose purpose is to power Agilent Technologies' growth through breakthrough technologies. Labs focuses on Agilent's future to ensure leadership in Agilent's existing businesses and to provide technology foundations that can create new businesses for the company going forward.

Requirements
(1) Ph.D. in physics, chemistry or engineering.
(2) Demonstrated expertise in scanned probe measurements
(3) Demonstrated state-of-the-art measurements using electrical and mechanical systems
(4) Demonstrated ability to come up with novel solutions to tough experimental problems
(5) Strong quantitative skills
(6) Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desired
(1) Broad experience in measurements on nanoscale devices or materials
(2) Experience with MEMS devices
(3) Expertise in programming and debugging real time systems.

Agilent's pioneering spirit was kindled more than 60 years ago, when two engineers - Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard - invented the future in their garage.

In 1999, Agilent was spun off from Hewlett-Packard Company, and we have continued to support the values so important to the two visionary founders.

While, physically, we have outgrown HP's garage, we continue to live the values handed down from Bill and Dave: uncompromising integrity: trust, respect and teamwork: and innovation that makes a difference.
