Job Title: Research Scientist, Protein Biologist
Description:

Agilent Laboratories provides a lead in developing new technologies for commercialization. In recent years, contributions to the Life Science and Chemical Analysis fields have included: DNA microarray technologies, polymer based microfluidics, Time-of-Flight mass spectrometer technologies, bioinformatics and Systems Biology technologies. Researchers at Agilent Laboratories typically work on exploring and developing new technologies which are three to seven years into the future.

In this role you will conduct applied research into developing new experimental separations and detection methods for identifying and measuring proteins in complex mixtures such blood serum , tissues and cell cultures. A particular focus is on developing new methods for identifying biomarkers and validation methods for proteins using labeling reagents, liquid chromatography and mass spectrometric instruments such as QQQ and QTOF. This position is for a full time research scientist who will lead the development and testing of new methods for the next generation of Aglient platform and will lead collaborations between Agilent Labs and external researchers to validate and proliferate these novel methods.

You will work closely with other biologists, chemists, engineers and computer scientists within Labs and across Agilent to help create Agilent's future life science solutions. The successful candidate will be well versed in protein expression methodologies and the application of protein expression data to address a biological question.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Developing and deploying new separation methods, reagents and protocols for applications using both prototype instruments and current Agilent platforms.
  • Identifying and establishing external scientific research collaborations to develop and proliferate measurement methods.
  • In the course of developing new applications, evaluate opportunities for creating new data analysis and visualization tools in order to provide an integrated solution for reducing and representing complex biological information in collaboration with Agilent Labs computer scientists working in informatics.
  • Maintain broad knowledge of principles and theories related to new and emerging technologies in the measurement and detection of proteins.

Agilent Laboratories is a world-leading industrial research center whose purpose is to power Agilent Technologies' growth through breakthrough technologies. Labs focuses on Agilent's future to ensure leadership in Agilent's existing businesses and to provide technology foundations that can create new businesses for the company going forward.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry or related field with focus on protein-related work.
  • 5-10 years of postdoc and/or related work experience.
  • Experience with proteomics methods, particularly immunoaffinity separations and Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry.
  • Complete familiarity with experiment design and instrumentation.
  • Strong problem solving and data analytical expertise required.
  • Ability to perform self-directed research.
  • Proven research ability and publication record.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in protein labeling and quantitation.
  • Experience with protein fractionation/separation techniques.
  • Familiarity analyzing large data sets and using bioinformatics tools.
  • Demonstrated track record of working and achieving results collaboratively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in new problem domains with domain experts.
  • Ability to work in a very multi-disciplinary environment.

Agilent's pioneering spirit was kindled more than 60 years ago, when two engineers - Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard - invented the future in their garage.

In 1999, Agilent was spun off from Hewlett-Packard Company, and we have continued to support the values so important to the two visionary founders.

While, physically, we have outgrown HP's garage, we continue to live the values handed down from Bill and Dave: uncompromising integrity: trust, respect and teamwork: and innovation that makes a difference.
