A postdoctoral position is available in the Genetics department at Rosetta Inpharmatics, Merck Research Laboratories.

As a core function of Merck Research Laboratories, the Genetics Department employs world class computational resources (listed on www.top500.org) and analyzes the most comprehensive biological data available in the field.   

We are seeking an exceptional PhD scientist experienced in developing numerical algorithms for massively parallel supercomputers. Research opportunities include collaboration with Genetics scientists to find efficient algorithmic solutions to mathematical problems in the areas of statistical genetics and genomic network reconstruction and investigation of programming languages and libraries for multi-core multi-node systems.  Publication and participation in scientific societies is expected.  These efforts will ultimately result in the identification of network-defined disease subtypes, of causal elements corresponding to each disease subtype, of disease-specific targets with therapeutic potential, and of biomarkers that are predictive of disease susceptibility and drug response.  The resulting discoveries will lead to the development of new and/or existing pharmaceutical products, including diagnostics.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related scientific discipline. Experience with numerical methods, parallel algorithms, and MPI is required. Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and strong personal motivation are necessary. Experience in Computational Biology, Statistics, and Machine Learning is a plus.
