Description:

The Laboratory of Clinical and Translational Studies (LCTS) at the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting a physician to conduct research in the Section of Clinical Assessment and Treatment Evaluation (CATE). The Section conducts clinical research utilizing a 14 bed patient care unit located in the Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center. The primary goal of this Section is to develop new pharmacological interventions that will enhance the treatment of alcoholism. This work is driven by the most recent findings from animal and human studies as well as the availability of appropriate pharmacological agents. One of our recent studies, examining the effects of neurokinin-1 receptor antagonism, was published in Science.

CATE utilizes its strong collaborations with other NIAAA Sections to conduct state of the art clinical research. Dr. Daniel Hommer's Section provides support for neuro-imaging studies. Dr. Markus Heilig's Section provides basic science support for bench to bedside translational studies. Dr. Vijay Ramchandani's Section provides expertise to conduct pharmacokinetic alcohol challenge studies.

Physicians with a special interest in neuroscience and addictions are encouraged to apply. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
