Description:
Velocity11, an Agilent Technologies company, is seeking an Applications Specialist with a passion for customer satisfaction to serve as the principal applications support engineer for our products located at a Key Customer in Ankeny, Iowa. Velocity11 provides robotic automation, liquid handling, and support tools to companies in the Biotech, Pharmaceutical, and AgBio communities.

Responsibilities for this position include: applications support, protocol development, user training, system and software troubleshooting. In addition a strong involvement in the continuing development of our automation control software is desired. Periodic travel may be required. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Protocol and Java Script authoring and troubleshooting: gathering requirements from end users, authoring, optimizing, and troubleshooting protocols.
  • Perform testing and validation of complex integrated laboratory automation systems
  • System installations and configuration
  • End-user training: eg: configuring the system for a run, authoring a protocol, running the protocol, recovering from errors
  • Integrator training: eg: installing and configuring the software package(s), teaching the robotics, reconfiguring the systems
  • Software debugging and enhancement: acting as a primary liaison with Velocity11's Software development team for: bug and feature enhancement escalation, tracking, and resolution
  • Provide feedback to development teams (Hardware and Software) to improve existing products.

 

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work comfortably both individually and in a team environment. Other requirements include:

  • Related work experience in BioPharma research or pre-clinical laboratories, preferably with automated liquid handling equipment and biological assays
  • Ability to provide clear and concise communication of product concepts and engineering requirements
  • Ability to adhere to a quality control system that requires documentation
  • Willingness to exercise considerable independent judgment
  • A desire to see projects through to completion
  • 5 or more years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent specialty (preferably with a focus on laboratory automation)
  • Mechanical aptitude and methodical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to keep composure and sense of humor in challenging situations
  • Experience of automation control software and Java Scripting
  • Experience of programming for robotics and automation would be a great advantage. E.g knowledge of MFC, ActiveX, and related software technologies as well as C++ programming skills
