Job Title: Cellular Functions of Ran GTPase, Dr. Petr Kalab
Description:

Postdoctoral positions are available in the new research group of Dr. Kalab (http://ccr.cancer.gov/staff/staff.asp?profileid=13906) within the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology (LCMB) at the National Cancer Institute, NIH, Bethesda.

Our approach is to consider the Ran and nuclear transport receptor system as a means to address important questions in cell biology. We are interested in the following areas:

  1. Mitotic spindle assembly;
  2. Nuclear assembly and function; and
  3. Mitotic Ran function in embryonic, differentiated, and cancer cells.
Individual projects will involve the application of a variety of methods, including biochemical and biophysical methods, chemical biology, and live quantitative FRET-based imaging. The experimental methods include Xenopus egg extracts, tissue culture cells, as well as animal models of Ran function.

The LCMB is composed of eight interactive research groups focusing on various aspects of intracellular signaling during oncogenesis, with an emphasis on the application of cutting edge cell biological approaches. The LCMB is a component of the intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR) at NCI, NIH. CCR provides access to numerous core research facilities such as for advanced microscopy, for protein expression, proteomics, chemical biology, translational research, and others.

The qualifications of the applicants should include high motivation, willingness to cross boundaries between different fields, and at least one of the following:

A) Strong background and experience in molecular and cell biology;
B) Biophysics or chemistry graduate with a strong interest and preferably some practical experience in cell biology.

Interested applicants should click on the button below, or send 1) brief statement of research interests addressing one of the above topics 2) CV with bibliography, and 3) contacts for 3 references to kalab@mail.nih.gov.

This position is subject to a background investigation.

The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
