Job Title: Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Fellow
Description:

A Bioinformatics researcher at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) is needed to be involved in the analysis of large microarray data sets and related genomic data.  This individual will be directly involved in 1) the statistical and computational analysis of genomic data including but not limited to DNA microarrays and 2) the development of new tools for the analysis of gene expression data.  In addition to analysis of gene expression data, the applicant should be familiar with public repositories of genomic data such as the NCBI (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) for the purposes of mass curation/annotation of genes and other genomic data.   The applicant will interact with biologists and bench researchers but primary work responsibilities will be computational in nature.

A PhD in computer science, medical informatics, bioinformatics, or other relevant field is required, as well as genetics and/or biological experience.  Applicants with other degrees but with significant experience in the field will be considered.  The candidate must also have knowledge of a subset of the following: C++, Java, Perl, VB, ASP.  In addition, experience with the statistical programming language "R" and the associated Bioconductor software is strongly preferred.  Applicants with strong backgrounds in SAS or MatLab would be considered as an alternative to "R."  A significant record of grant writing, presentations, and publications is also highly desirable.  Candidates with specific experience in the computational processing of nucleic acid sequence data using software such as NCBI's BLAST are encouraged to apply.
