Description:

Data Center Infrastructure Mechanical Research Engineer #7957

Responsibility:

The incumbent will be engaged in the research, conceptualization, design, layout and testing of the physical infrastructure of state-of-the-art Data Centers.  Will also serve as a consultative resource to Panduit Sales & Marketing and provide technical leadership to applicable Product Business Units.

 

Specific Duties:

·         Provide Data Center physical infrastructure solutions to business requirements posed by Sales & Marketing as well as end-users: 

o        Define, organize and consolidate market and technical design requirements;

o        Evaluate technologies, internal capabilities and vendors;

o        Create, communicate and manage technical project plans and conceptual designs based on market/ technology context and business need; and

o        Liaise with appropriate support tiers, Application Teams, Product Divisions, Procurement, Sales & Marketing and end-users.

·         Perform and/or guide product development and enhancement activities:

o        Design, layout, test and evaluate mechanical designs;

o        Complete all required documentation; and

o        Direct support personnel in preparation of detailed design, testing and prototype fabrication.

·         Research, analyze, recommend and implement new technologies, standard processes and techniques using creative and innovative solutions.

·         Through research/ analysis/ education/ training/ networking, remain current on emerging tools, techniques and technologies.

 

Skills, Training, Experience Required:

·         Minimum of 8 years of experience in the design of Data Center physical infrastructure/components and 2-3 years of experience leading/influencing cross-functional teams

·         Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering; PhD preferred

·         Cisco, Microsoft and EMC Certifications preferred.

·         Comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the Data Center and all elements including

o        Data Center Standard TIA-942,

o        Structured Cabling design,

o        Local Area Network design and operation,

o        Storage Area Network design and operation,

o         Power and Cooling;

·         Familiarity with applicable global and federal regulations and standards;

·         Capacity to perform simultaneous management of multiple projects, ranging from routine to highly complex and difficult;

·         Acceptable results will require initiative, broad judgment, integration of multiple fields of knowledge (technical and business) and development of problem solutions for which there may be little precedent;

·         Inter-personal skills sufficient for frequent interaction at all levels on management, internal and external, under conditions, which will reach high levels of intensity.
